I had an amazing year, just with very little help and contact from the Canada honestly network.

1. In terms of my own preparation, I felt that I had prepared accordingly both physically and mentally. In terms of my host mother, I think she did well in the fact that she made sure I had a place in school and my room was all set up, but she rushed into things at the beginning with out really giving me time to breathe or talking about it with me. The network was not much help, and at the beginning when I arrived was the ONLY time I had ever seen or been contacted for the ongoing year by my legal guardian Danny Nygen afterwards.

2. In terms of care, my host mother was ok, she did things like making dinner, but it felt like everything she had to do was a chore for her, which is not a nice feeling to have if you just wanted to eat. I feel I took care of myself in more regards especially near the end, from my decision of wanting to cook for myself and shop for myself, ect. but she certainly did make an effort to sign me up for things that I wanted to do and school events which I am thankful for.

3. My school was great most of the teachers were friendly enough and helpful, and I made so many great friends and memories there that I will cherish forever, the school was easy and so relaxing compared to my home school. I really loved it.

4. My host sister was amazing and I love her still so much, she was extremely kind, understanding and generous. My host mother was ok, she was nice enough and supported me, but she was a bit controlling and I felt she just used us her daughter especially to do all the chores around the house were forced on me and her only daughter, and it was exhausting and upsetting to see her there, not to help, but to order us around. I felt like she was an extremely difficult person and she ‘could never be wrong’ in arguments so it was so draining if you had to deal with her. I think I might’ve been happier if I switched at the start of the year and I wouldn’t really with that on anyone for a host, in fact I would go against it.
